HAMEDAN -- Member of the Islamic Revolution's Mojahedin Organization (IRMO), Hashem Aghajari, here Saturday appeared in branch 14 of Hamedan court for the fourth in-camera hearing of a complaint filed against him for insulting religious sanctities.

No details on Saturday's hearing is available.

Aghajari was released after the court's second hearing on his case after posting a bail of two billion rials, but was again detained after the third hearing on an order issued by the presiding judge.

He was summoned to court early last month on charges of insulting religious sanctities in a speech delivered before a meeting of provincial education officials.

Aghajari's remarks, which called for restructuring of the religous system in the country, triggered an outrage among many who called on the Judiciary to take action against the brilliant journalist who is a war veteran and a university lecturer, IRNA reported.

The journalist came under severe criticism from prominent intellectuals, including President Mohammad Khatami who implicitly castigated the journalist for "insulting and weakening" clerics in the name of intellectualism and reform. When the IRMO voiced support for Aghajari, the Society of Qom Theological Seminary Instructors thereafter branded the organization as "irreligious."

The Society of Islamic Associations of the Bazaar recently joined Qom Theological Seminary Instructors in accusing the IRMO of operating illegitimately and have thus filed a complaint with Article 10 Commission to have the organization disbanded.

The issues are still under study by the commission.
